The Nutrition Research Centre (NRC) utilises advanced nuclear science and health-based techniques to tackle Ghana’s most pressing nutrition challenges.

Our research spans from studying infant and maternal feeding patterns to addressing obesity and micronutrient deficiencies, generating evidence that guides effective public health policies and interventions.

By working closely with government agencies, international partners, and local communities, NRC connects scientific discovery with practical solutions that enhance nutrition and improve overall health for people across Ghana.

At NRC, we go beyond data; we create knowledge that nourishes lives and drives sustainable change.

Vision

To lead nutritional science in Ghana by delivering evidence-based solutions for healthier communities.

Mission

To evaluate national nutrition programmes using stable isotopes, study diet-related non-communicable diseases and food quality, build capacity in nutritional assessment techniques, and advocate for improved food and nutritional labelling.

Core Functions

  • Assess nutritional status using stable isotope techniques.
  • Research diet-related diseases, including obesity and diabetes.
  • Analyse food quality and safety, including issues of adulteration.
  • Train professionals in nutritional science and stable isotope methods.

 Impact and Achievements

  • Secured GTEC accreditation for an MSc in Applied Human Nutrition for 2025-2026.
  • Enhanced obesity prevention through stable isotope-based studies.
  • Provided evidence for maternal and child health interventions through research on breastfeeding and supplementation
